Hi Everyone,
Sportreat here just checking in to see how you are all doing on the last day of our second lockdown. I hope you are all staying safe, following the rules and looking after yourselves and each other.
I’m also going to give you a few hints and tips to stay fit and healthy during the rest of this week.
With lock down comes more sitting down.
Most people are either off work or working from home currently, which usually means poor ergonomic desk set up, or lots more couch time. Try and set up a standing work station which you can alternate between your sitting setup. For example, a kitchen counter, or I have seen an ironing board used, with some extra books to bring the monitor or laptop up to eye level works well. You can also try and locate a second keyboard and mouse. This allows you to have the keyboard and mouse at a lower level then the monitor when using a laptop to work on. With the standing desk, if you start to get a little sore in the lower back, try opening the bottom cupboard, clearing little space and popping one of your feet up on the bottom shelf, this takes a lot of pressure of the lower back.
Exercise
We’ve been allowed 1 hour per day to get out in your neighbourhood and exercise (with masks on). I encourage everyone to use the full 60 minutes of this allocation, walk or ride around your neighbourhood. You’ll be amazed at how many people are actually out and about. I always said following the first lockdown, I hope the increased activity I saw around the streets continues after the restrictions are lifted.
Movement
Apart from the 1 hour of outside exercise a day we are allowed to move as much as we want in our home. There is a simple back mobility routine I give to people with chronically sore and stiff backs. I recommend doing this once in the morning and once at night. This will help you prevent pain and stiffness from developing if you are not able to complete your normal activity levels. click here to view the mobility routine.
Thanks for reading, if there are any questions please do not hesitate to message or ring us on 9438 2400 and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Yours in Health,
Julian, Hadyn and the Sportreat team
